Costa Rican cuisine is extremely rich and varied, from the freshest vegetables and tropical fruits to delicious shellfish dishes. The most popular local specialties are “casado”, a dish of rice, beans, plantain, meat and salad; “chorreadas”, thick corn tortillas and “empanadas” (pasties) filled with cheese, beans or meat.

Other very popular dishes in the region are tamales, rice with chicken, “picadillo de arracache” (minced arracache root with pork or veal) and “papa con carne” (meat and potato stew).
