The Dominican Republic and Haiti together form the island of Hispaniola, the first land Christopher Columbus set foot on in the New World. The capital, Santo Domingo, was declared UNESCO World Cultural Heritage in 1990, in recognition of its numerous colonial monuments.
The country, situated in the heart of the Caribbean, has a surface area of 48,442 square kilometers. Visitors will find beautiful, white-sand beaches, distributed along 1,575 kilometers of coastline boasting turquoise-coloured waters, lush vegetation, and colourful coral reefs.

Punta Plata
Puerto Plata, situated on the Amber Coast, is the largest and most important city on the Dominican Republic's northern coast and is one of the country's most important tourist locations where you will discover the true Caribbean spirit. With its fantastic and welcoming setting, its visitors can practice their favourite sport, be it sailing, golf, fishing, diving or horse riding in the mountains. Puerto Plata is a very clean and much tidier city than others in the country.
