Legal Documentation

Civil Weddings

Only documentation required:

  • Valid Passports (Groom & Bride) (ESSENTIAL)
  • Valid Passports OR picture ID's (4 Witnesses)
  • Tourist Visa Cards (Groom, Bride and Witnesses. They will be given at the airport)
  • Blood Test (Name, Blood Type, Syphilis and HIV). The Blood Test must be done in Mexico from a specific Governmental Laboratory. An appointment will be set with them to come to the Resort and take the blood sample. The payment is directly and in Cash.
Notes:
  • PASSPORTS AND BIRTH CERTIFICATE MUST HAVE THE SAME INFORMATION.
  • TOURIST VISA MUST BE FILLED ACCORDING TO THE OFFICIAL DOCUMENT YOU WILL PRESENT
  • HIV positive, it is a cause of impediment to get married.
  • If the Bride is divorced in Canada and her passport has her ex husband last name, she needs to bring a separate and Original Birth Certificate certified by the Mexican Consulate and translated into Spanish as well as the certification and her Tourist Visa Card MUST be filled according to the Birth Certificate
  • If the Bride is divorced in United States or United Kingdom and her passport has her ex husband last name, she needs to bring a separate and Original Birth Certificate certified through an APOSTILLE SEAL by the Secretary of State and translated into Spanish as well as the Apostille and her Tourist Visa Card MUST be filled according to the Birth Certificate
  • THE MARRIAGE IS LEGAL IN MEXICO. WE OFFER THE APOSTILLE SEAL IN THE MARRIAGE DOCUMENT (to be sent 3-4 months after wedding ceremony), IN ORDER TO LEGALIZE THE MARRIAGE IN YOUR COUNTRY. (Delivery has a charge)

*Original Birth Certificates and Original Divorce Certificates will stay with the Justice of the . THEY WON'T BE RETURNED
*Laws and requirements are subject to change with accordance of the Mexican Laws.
Please do not hesitate to contact if you have any concern regarding documentation. Couple must leave a copy of the marriage license before leaving the Resort

Catholic Wedding

Only documentation required:

Prior to your trip to Mexico:

  • Visit your Pastor, your Parish Priest and do all the paperwork required there.
  • The couple must do the pre-marriage courses in their country and then ask their local priest to issue a certificate ( Nihil Obstat ), giving his approval to Padre Jorge Castañeda at Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de Fátima (he is the local Priest here in Mexico) in order to celebrate the marriage in Playa del Carmen.
  • Once you receive the certificate please fax (or e-mail) a copy to your Wedding Coordinator at (984) 875-1524 or weddings@barcelomaya.com
  • Please bring original certificate with you.
  • This document must be received at least 2 months before the wedding in order to confirm the ceremony date and time.

*** The Catholic Church is available Monday through to Friday (except Tuesday). Dates and times to perform wedding ceremonies at our Resort, are subject to priest confirmation. Catholic ceremonies must be at the Chapel - other locations are not permitted by the church ***

Once availability has been confirmed by your Wedding Coordinator, we kindly ask you to send VIA FAX (or e-mail) a copy of your booking confirmation (confirmation must include name of Groom & Bride, arrival & departure date and time). Upon receipt of this information your Wedding Coordinator will send you a confirmation of wedding date and time.

*External services will not be allowed in the resort.
